Tear-jerking testament to 'nature red in tooth & claw'

The list of films, books and songs that are capable of making me cry is extensive. The list of things that genuinely upset or distress me is far shorter but has just grown by one.

I'm still sniffling away after watching this video of a young elephant being attacked by lions. It isn't especially graphic and there is nothing about the way it was filmed that makes it any different from the footage seen on natural history programmes around the world.

But the plaintive cries of the immature elephant as the lions slowly begin to eat it, are absolutely heartbreaking to hear.
