A Christmas tune with a Boston Irish flavour

The Dropkick Murphys have released a video to accompany their latest single "The Season's Upon Us", a holiday song that captures a certain kind of Christmas spirit.

Expect to hear this ringing out of Irish pubs across the world over the next few weeks.

The best "viral" advert for Thermo Scientific freezers you'll see all day

I'll definitely keep this in mind when I buy my next Thermo Scientific ultra-low temperature freezer.

I've turned up late to the Gangnam Style party

But now here I am dancing my ass off to this K-Pop viral video masterpiece:

The video is currently number 2 on YouTube's music chart and despite having seen it around the web for weeks now, I hadn't actually watched any of it until it was featured in the latest Teens React:

I've seen a few K-Pop videos in passing but never been overly impressed by any of them, this one however is something special.

The tune is a decent sounding piece of pop which I'm told is all about living the glamorous lifestyle associated with Seoul's Gangnam District, analogous to Beverly Hills. But let's face it, the real source of this video's popularity is the wonderful display of dancing given by PSY.

(It also turns out I'm not the only person who has been thinking it was called Gundam Style.)

With their '5 people on 1 guitar' cover of Gotye nearing 133 million views on YouTube, what's next for WOTE?

Creators of one of the most viral videos of all time Walk Off The Earth's cover of "Somebody that I used to know" probably helped Gotye far more than themselves
If you have somehow failed to see it yet you can click the picture to watch the video.
Here they team up with Julia Nunes, who returned with a new video earlier this week, to cover "Some Nights by Fun, who released their video for the track last week.

"Would you like to come to my party Pom Pom? Would you like to be my guest? It's gonna be a Poo Poo Party Pom Pom, a Poo Poo Party's the best."

This surreal masterpiece was originally created by Adam Buxton for the Song Wars segment of the BBC 6 Music radio show he shared with Joe Cornish. It's now been given a rather disturbing video to accompany it.

Should bands use other people's videos for their songs?

R.E.M. recently unveiled the video for their new single Every Day Is Yours To Win which is comprised of footage from the videos various YouTube users. I watched about half of it before getting bored and searching for this instead:

Not only is Feeder's 'Just a Day' so much better than Michael Stipe's dreary whining, the video is great to watch as well.

The Foo Fighters movie cometh!

Check out this trailer for the forthcoming Foo Fighters rock-umentary:

On top of that we have the new album to look forward to. We've already seen the video for White Limo and now we have one for Rope:

Hot Chip make me feel better

While the song itself is great the pure genius of this video, directed by Peter Serafinowicz, is what keeps me coming back for more.

I'm in love with Lady Gaga's madness

Below is the video for Lady Gaga's latest hit 'Born This Way'. It's the extended story-length video so skip forward a few minutes to get to the singing. I have to admit that I've fallen instantly in love with this song, there is something in the combination of vocal melody, beats, electronic effects and 80s nostalgia that just appealed to me at once. I'm not one of Gaga's little monsters but I do think she has some very well written songs and I enjoy the persona she uses to promote them.

Meekakitty Can Be My Star Trek Girl Whenever She Wants

One of my favourite people on YouTube is Meekakitty. She's funny, geeky, beautiful and running neck and neck with Julia Nunes for my prestigious "YouTube'r I'd Most Like To Marry" award.

Her latest video is just yet another of the many reasons I'm in love with her and her epically nerdy humour:

Spoilers:
My favourite points are the brief glimpse of her Seven-of-Nine outfit & the fantastic Ray William Johnson cameo.

This isn't the first time Meekakitty (real name Tessa) has appeared in a music video, check out her performance in the video for All Caps - Don't Unplug Me (one of my most played songs).

(Galactic) Empire State of Mind

First it was Jay-Z & Alicia Keys, then Alicia on her own, now everyone seems to have had a go at recording a version of 'Empire State of Mind'... even Darth Vader?

Band Fight!

Matt and Kim were the inspiration for my favourite blog posting, but I had forgotten about them since. This was my loss, as their latest video shows.

I leave you with a video that has been doing the rounds recently and seems to provoke differing reactions in those who view it. I think it's unsettling but a great creation nonetheless, let me know what you think.

The Sound of Music(videos)

So music videos are finally back on YouTube UK. To be honest most of the videos could still be found but it was a bit of a hassle so it's great that it's been finally sorted.

How have YouTube have marked the occasion?
"In the first of a series of Guest Editorships to mark the return of premium music video to YouTube, click-magnet Basshunter highlights four of his favourite clips. Bring on the Dance -- and see the YouTube blog for more from the man himself."

A short video from the man himself shows him speaking of how big a fan he is of the site before introducing four videos.

Each mention is accompanied by one of those clickable annotations which pause the current video and open the selected video in a new window. I do like this feature and this is a pretty good use for it although they're a little stingy with some of the timings!

The four videos Basshunter recommends?

Snap! - Rhythm Is A Dancer
A true classic from 1992

Arash - Donya (featuring Shaggy)
The video is ok but nothing special

Basshunter - Every Morning
It might not be to everyone's taste but I have a penchant for cheesy Euro dance/pop and feel this will be added to the rotation

Prodigy - Firestarter
One of the most memorable videos of the 90's and still great today
