Bob Hoskins to retire following Parkinson's diagnosis

The Guardian reports that the actor received the diagnosis in the autumn of last year.

His 30 year career has included critical success (Mrs. Henderson Presents, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?) and the occasional misstep (Super Mario Brothers) but perhaps his greatest performance was in The Long Good Friday.

It makes me sad. Why would a footballer as talented as Beckham agree to this CGI'd rubbish? I hope he got paid a truckload of money from it because it's bound to have damaged his brand credibility.

Also, how bad does your performance have to be for David Beckham to out act you Mr. Overenthusiastic-Guy-Behind-Camera?

If you haven't watched the trailer for Dead Island yet I really urge you to do so. It is an amazingly moving 3 minutes of animation.

As far as response videos go that was pretty mega. The fact that he stops mid-tirade to Google is epic geekdom, made even greater by the ridiculous racial slur he then comes out with.

He definitely needs someone to tell him how bad an idea this was. Mick took to the stage at the Grammys to perform 'Everybody Needs Somebody To Love' providing conclusive evidence for the theory that rock legends never die, they just f-f-f-f-fade away.

The previous post reminded me of this video which I was surprised to find I hadn't shared on the blog.

Most of you reading this will have had a series of games consoles throughout your life, but do you ever stop to think about your first and the moments you shared together?

Once you've finished drying your eyes, and before you go searching in the cupboard under the stairs for your old Mega Drive, you might want to have a listen to the full version of the song being played at the end - The Mountain Goat's 'Thank You Mario! But Our Princess Is In Another Castle!'.

Incredibly moving 3 minute animated short, is actually a trailer for a zombie game?

The trailer for forthcoming zombie game Dead Island, is a beautifully elegant affair that actually makes you care about the collection of pixels and polygons before you in a way I've never seen before.

Put aside any thoughts about the game itself, this is just a brilliantly crafted, emotionally fraught bit of film making and deserves your full attention for 3 minutes.



Be honest, are you holding back a tear or two. Is there suddenly a lump in your throat? Name another 3 minute piece of video that can have that great of an emotional impact.

I HATE Valentine's Day!

You're probably also wondering why on earth a family holiday camp would use this to try and attract visitors? Well, it took me a few viewings to realise that of course it's Ludo the dinosaur who is feeling blue after his little friend finishes his holiday. They had so many great times together but now they are all gone... until the next kid turns up.

The song is 'Dust in the Wind' by Kansas and you can watch the full version used in the advert here but for me this song is forever associated with one highly emotional movie moment... You're my boy Blue!You're my boy.
