First it was Google Maps, now Apple have dropped YouTube from their iOS app lineup

The latest act in the ongoing fight between the tech superpowers of Apple and Google, has been the release of the latest test version of it's iPhone & iPad operating system (iOS 6 Beta 4) without the YouTube app. A feature which had been standard on all iOS devices since the first iPhone was released in 2007.

When asked why the app was no longer included, an Apple spokesperson said the app had been removed because its licence to produce the program had expired, and that Google was developing its own version of the app which should appear soon.

The continued growth of Google's Android operating system has been seen as a threat by Apple, who in response have attempted to sever their reliance on Google products by replacing the search giant's apps with it's own offerings.

What effect this will have on iPhone/iPad owners remains to be seen. They will still be able to visit YouTube via their device's browser and so haven't been blocked from accessing their daily dose of kitten videos.

The news that Google are busy developing the app themselves could also be a mixed bag. While it would mean an app full of great new features to play with, it's likely to come in an ad laden package as iOS users are subjected to the pre-roll advertising that they've been shielded from thus far by Apple.
