Obama tells NASA "Let me know if you find aliens"

A recent poll showing that U.S. citizens believe Barack Obama would handle an alien invasion far better than his opponent Mitt Romney, could be behind the President's request but since it was made while congratulating the team behind the Mars Curiosity Rover landing I think it's safe to give them the credit for it.

In the video we hear Obama addressing a room full of the scientists & engineers behind the successful landing on Mars. Alongside the expected congratulations on a job well done, he asks that if they do find extraterrestrial life they give him a call at once, even if it's merely microbial.



Making several mentions of hopes for a future manned mission to our planetary neighbour the President also reveals that while prevented from doing so in the past, he will be revisiting his desire to sport a mohawk after the effect it has had for Bobak Ferdowski (aka NASA Mohawk Guy).

Now that we've got a space lab on Mars, when are we sending one to Venus?

We've sent probes to the surface before so why not again?

Admittedly the surface temperatures of 872 °F, clouds of sulfuric acid and crushing 93 bar atmospheric pressure make it a little less hospitable than the red planet, but the challenge is what would make it fun.

We could send a rover to Mars every two weeks if we just did what?

You may remember in June of this year that University of Tampa professor Ryan T. Cragun, along with his students Stephanie Yeager and Desmond Vega, found a way for the United States to raise an extra $71 billion in taxes.

How? By removing the tax exemptions given to religious organisations.

Why am I bringing this up now?

Because someone was kind enough to work out what $71 billion would buy is in Mars rovers and it's a handy fact to have to hand the next time someone starts questioning the need to fund space exploration.

Should today's successful Mars rover landing be considered one of the '10 Historic Moments in Space Exploration'?

Personally I wouldn't have included number 9 on the list and
